RESOLUTION APPROVING AGREEMENT REGARDING
MONETARY GIFT FOR AQUATIC CENTER/PARK
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, Don and Ruth Furman committed $2 million to the City of Ames for the new
aquatic center if the bond referendum for this project was approved by the voters; and,
WHEREAS, more specifically, the Furmans proposed in their May 26, 2007, letter to Mayor
Campbell to gift the City: 1)$1 million to build the 50-meter length pool and other enhancements at the
aquatic center, and, 2) $1 million to establish an endowment fund to be used to minimize the City's
ongoing operational costs for the pool and provide for future repair and replacement of equipment at the
facility; and,
WHEREAS,with the passage of the bond referendum,the Furmans are now prepared to transfer
the monetary gift to the City to facilitate the construction of the new aquatic center; and,
WHEREAS, in order to assure that the City utilizes this generous donation to the City in
accordance with the wishes of the Furmans,it was agreed the City Council should approve the attached
agreement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that
the agreement with Don and Ruth Furman pertaining to the monetary gift for the Aquatic Center/Park
is hereby approved as attached hereto and made a part hereof by this reference.
