HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Neighborhood Improvement Project grants RESOLUTION NO. 07-382 RESOLUTION APPROVING EXPENDITURES FOR NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS FOR 2007/08 FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, for the 12th consecutive year, the City Council has appropriated local option sales tax funds to finance the Neighborhood Improvement Program(NIP),and this year,$50,000 was approved for neighborhood projects; and, WHEREAS,at this time,$25,000 is earmarked for NIP with the remaining$25,000 allocated for a broader array of neighborhood projects to be determined by the City Council; and, WHEREAS, there are two main goals of the NIP: 1) to strengthen a neighborhood's appearance with the addition of permanent, physical improvements, and 2) to promote a greater sense of community through resident participation in a neighborhood project; and, WHEREAS, six applications were received for a total funding request of$19,024.44; and, WHEREAS,the Review Panel,comprised of City staff members and two citizens,reviewed the applications and recommended that three grants be approved at this time; and, WHEREAS, the Edwards Elementary Playground project for $2,085.03; Schubert Circle landscaping project for $1,510; and the Parkview Heights Park project for $5,000 were recommended for funding. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the expenditure of$8,595.03 for the above-named Neighborhood Improvement Program projects is hereby approved.
