HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Rescission of Resolution for Power of the People Rally RESOLUTION NO. 07-360 RESOLUTION RESCINDING APPROVAL OF STREET CLOSURES, BLANKET VENDING LICENSE,AND BLANKET TEMPORARY OBSTRUCTION PERMIT FOR POWER OF THE PEOPLE RALLY FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, on July 10,2007,the City Council adopted a resolution closing Main Street, from Clark Avenue to Duff Avenue, and Burnett Avenue, from Main Street to Fifth Street, on August 10, 2007, for activities associated with the Tommy Thompson Power of the People Rally; and, WHEREAS, a Blanket Vending License and Blanket Temporary Obstruction Permit for the Central Business District(CBD) were also approved; and, WHEREAS, approvals were contingent upon the event organizers paying the cost of police security, lost parking revenue, electricity usage, and Blanket Vending License fee; and, WHEREAS, although the Main Street Cultural District(MSCD) supported the event, the City Council did not feel that Ames taxpayers should be subsidizing a political rally for a particular presidential candidate; and, WHEREAS,event organizers stated that they were canceling the street dance and other activities pertaining to the Rally, due to the fees being imposed on them,therefore, staff is asking the Council to rescind the previously approved resolution. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that the resolution approving street closures, a Blanket Vending License, and a Blanket Temporary Obstruction Permit for the Power of the People Rally that was to be held on August 10, 2007, in the Central Business District is hereby rescinded.
