HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Closure of Duff Avenue for UPRR crossing repairs RESOLUTION NO. 07-321 RESOLUTION DELEGATING AUTHORITY TO ADMINISTRATIVELY APPROVE CLOSURE OF DUFF AVENUE TO FACILITATE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD SURFACE REPAIR WORK FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,on June 22,2007,staff was contacted by Union Pacific Railroad(UPRR)regarding the continuation of repair work for the Duff Avenue railroad crossing,specifically the southern east-west rail line; and, WHEREAS, the UPRR indicated that from June 27 through June 28, it will conduct surface repairs at this crossing; and, WHEREAS, Duff Avenue is classified as a Minor Arterial roadway,which in accordance with the Municipal Code, requires Council approval prior to closure; and, WHEREAS, due to the heavy train traffic seen on the east-west mainline, the UPRR makes its best effort to coordinate repair work with the normal train deliveries that occur; and, WHEREAS, recent experience with similar coordination efforts has resulted in the need for flexibility on the part of staff to be able to administratively change the date of the closure as needed. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that the delegation to staff the ability to administratively approve the closure of Duff Avenue to facilitate the Union Pacific Railroad surface repair work beginning June 27,2007,and ending upon completion of the repairs is hereby approved.
