RESOLUTION APPROVING COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH
IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR
GRAND AVENUE EXTENSION
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization's (AAMPO) Long Range
Transportation Plan(LRTP)identifies the need to extend Grand Avenue from Lincoln Way to South 16t'
Street; and,
WHEREAS, the first phase of this extension was completed, and the next phase will extend
Grand Avenue from south of Lincoln Way to Squaw Creek Drive; and,
WHEREAS, the final phase will complete the extension to South 161h Street; and,
WHEREAS, an agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) needs to be
approved which outlines a cooperative arrangement to improve Grand Avenue through the extension to
Squaw Creek Drive; and,
WHEREAS,this agreement includes provisions of replacement pavement and parking spaces on
the IDOT campus, removal and replacement of lighting units and chain link fence, construction of a
retaining/decorative wall, and construction of traffic signals at the IDOT/Lincoln Center entrance and
the new intersection of Grand Avenue and South 4`' Street.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that
the cooperative agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) for improvement
provisions required for construction of the Grand Avenue extension adjacent to the IDOT headquarters.
ADOPTED THIS 26`'' day of June, 2007.
