HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Downtown Facade Improvement Grant for 547 Main Street RESOLUTION NO. 07-287 RESOLUTION APPROVING DOWNTOWN FACADE IMPROVEMENT GRANT FOR 547 MAIN STREET FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the building at 547 Main Street was constructed in 1975 and became Aunt Maude's Restaurant, and the current owner of the restaurant is purchasing and renovating the building for continued use as that restaurant; and, WHEREAS,the owner intends to add a front patio and renovate the facade,and he is requesting $15,000 for facade improvements expected to cost more than$31,000 and$1,000 toward architectural fees for developing the proposed design; and, WHEREAS,Aunt Maude's is a prominent part of the image of the Main Street Cultural District (MSCD); and, WHEREAS, the proposed project does include "hardiplank" and painted wood in the parapet, which the guidelines list as not recommended, however, the structure of the building will not support above the windows the masonry materials that the guidelines recommend; and, WHEREAS,the "hardiplank" is a durable material that, in this case,will be finished to appear as a seamless panel, which is typically a feature of many Ames downtown facades. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the request for a Downtown Facade Improvement Grant in the amount of$15,000, plus $1,000 for architect's fees, for facade improvements at 547 Main Street is hereby approved.
