RESOLUTION APPROVING RENEWAL OF CONTRACT FOR
SPECIALIZED WET DRY VACUUM, HYDRO BLAST,AND
RELATED CLEANING SERVICES FOR ELECTRIC SERVICES
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the City of Ames Electric Utility has two coal-fired boiler, high-pressure steam
generation units within the Power Plant, and these units are referred to as Unit Nos. 7 and 8; and,
WHEREAS, these units require regular professional maintenance and repair, and this consists
of emergency as well as regularly-scheduled planned repairs and service during scheduled outages;and,
WHEREAS,the cleaning and special preparation of the boiler surfaces on these generation units
requires professional trade crafts and maintenance experts; and,
WHEREAS,prior to repair and maintenance work being done,it is necessary to have the surfaces
professionally cleaned suing high-pressure water jets and vacuums; and,
WHEREAS,in order to clean the surfaces,outside contractors are used who can provide mobile
high pressure generator trucks with hoses and lances to cut through and wash away the industrial debris
coatings; and,
WHEREAS, on December 19, 2006, the Council awarded a contract to Hydro-Klean, Inc., of
Des Moines, Iowa, for specialized wet/dry vacuum, hydro blast, and related cleaning services to be
furnished as requested through June 30, 2007,with two optional 12-month renewal periods; and,
WHEREAS,the approved FY 2007/08 operating budget for Electric Production includes up to
$23,500 for miscellaneous services to be performed under this contract.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that
the contract renewal for specialized boiler cleaning services with Hydro-Klean, Inc., of Des Moines,
Iowa,in an amount not to exceed$23,500,with services to be provided through June 30,2008,is hereby
approved.
ADOPTED THIS 12" day of June, 2007.
