RESOLUTION APPROVING REQUESTS FROM
AMES PATRIOTIC COUNCIL FOR MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, each year, the Ames Patriotic Council conducts a community observance of
Memorial Day, and this observance involves a parade from City Hall to the Municipal Cemetery
followed by a memorial service at the cemetery, and,
WHEREAS,since the use of City facilities and staff are involved in this observance,the Patriotic
Council has a letter requesting the City's support; and,
WHEREAS, the following requested items are presented for Council approval in order to
facilitate the Memorial Day observance on Monday, May 28, 2007: 1) closure of the south half of
Parking Lot M(west of City Hall)from 9:00 a.m.to 10:30 a.m. for staging the parade entries;2)closure
of Fifth Street from Pearle Avenue through the Clark Avenue intersection from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
for line-up and start of the parade entries; 3) temporary closure of Clark Avenue from Fifth Street to
Ninth Street between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.; 4) temporary closure of Ninth Street between Clark
Avenue and Maxwell Avenue between 10:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.; and, 5) temporary closure of Sixth
Street and Duff Avenue as the parade moves through those intersections; and,
WHEREAS,it should be noted that temporary closures of residential streets that intersect Ninth
Street and Clark Avenue will occur as the parade progresses; and,
WHEREAS, most intersection closures will last only for a number of minutes, and the Public
Works Department will provide barricades for all of the street closure areas; and,
WHEREAS, the Police Department will provide a lead car for the parade and will assist
participants through the Sixth Street and Duff Avenue intersections.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the aforementioned requests from the Ames Patriotic Council for the Memorial Day Parade to be held
on May 28, 2007, are hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 8th day of May, 2007.
