RESOLUTION APPROVING RIGHT-OF-WAY AGREEMENT
FOR GRAND AVENUE EXTENSION
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization's (AAMPO) Long Range
Transportation Plan(LRTP)identifies the need to extend Grand Avenue from Lincoln Way to South 16`'
Street, and the first phase of this extension was completed to approximately 350 feet south of Lincoln
Way at the HyVee entrance; and,
WHEREAS, the next phase will extend Grand Avenue from this point south to Squaw Creek
Drive, and the final phase will complete the extension to South 16t' Street; and,
WHEREAS, on June 27, 2006, the Council approved an agreement with the Iowa Department
of Transportation (IDOT) , and as part of this agreement, the IDOT will donate the state-owned land
which will be required for construction of the extension adjacent to the IDOT headquarter all at no cost
to the City; and,
WHEREAS,in working with our congressional delegation,the mayor and council were able to
secure funding through the new federal transportation bill for the second phase of the Grand Avenue
Extension Project; and,
WHEREAS, this project was identified to receive up to $4,000,000 in Federal High Priority
Project funds for eligible engineering and construction costs,however,the federal government has only
appropriated 85% for special earmark transportation projects; and,
WHEREAS, the City is only expected to receive $3,400,000, therefore, additional funds are
planned in the amount of$1,000,000 from General Obligation Bonds for the local match.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that
the Right-of-Way Agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for the Grand Avenue
Extension adjacent to the DOT headquarters is hereby approved.
