RESOLUTION APPROVING FIVE-YEAR EXTENSION TO AGREEMENT
FOR WASTE DISPOSAL WITH BOONE COUNTY LANDFILL
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the Resource Recovery System includes the Resource RecoveryPlant and the closed
sanitary landfill; and,
WHEREAS,the landfill was closed in 1992 and any waste that can not be processed into Refuse-
Derived Fuel is currently disposed of at the Boone County Landfill; and,
WHEREAS, this work is done under a five-year agreement that originated in 1992 and was
amended in 1997 and 2002 to extend the time frame until June 30, 2007; and,
WHEREAS,staff has been working with Boone County to review the agreement and provide for
the extension for another five years; and,
WHEREAS,the agreement is similar to previous agreements with the exception that the notice
times for rate changes or termination have been revised from 180 days to 120 days; and,
WHEREAS,effective July 1,2007,the rate will increase to $40.50 per ton from$39.50 per ton.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that
the five-year extension to the agreement for waste disposal with the Boone County Landfill is hereby
approved.
