RESOLUTION APPROVING EXTENSION OF CONTRACT
FOR HAULING AND RELATED SERVICES
TO BOONE COUNTY LANDFILL
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, on May 11, 2004,the Council awarded a contract to Waste Management of Ames
for hauling and related services for the Resource Recovery Plant during the 2005 fiscal year; and,
WHEREAS,July 1,2007,through June 30,2008,is the third of four optional extension periods,
and the approved fiscal year 2008 budget includes $204,060 for this work; and,
WHEREAS, under this contract, containers are provided and materials are hauled from the
Resource Recovery Plant to the Boone County Landfill, and the contract is based on a per-mile per-ton
bid amount and a round trip distance to the Landfill of 36 miles; and,
WHEREAS,the base bid price of$.295 per mile,per ton is adjustable for each extension period
based on 10%of the bid amount based on fuel costs and on the diesel fuel price index as determined by
the Iowa Department of Transportation on the March 1 preceding the renewal; and,
WHEREAS,the original base bid price of$.295 per mile per ton translated to$10.62 per ton for
a round trip to the Boone County Landfill; and,
WHEREAS,under the contract adjustment clause, the contract price would increase to $.3248
per mile per ton for FY 2008, increasing the cost for a round trip to the Landfill to $11.69 per ton; and,
WHEREAS,the total cost of this contract is dependent on tonnage hauled,and the budget amount
will haul approximately 17,000 tons.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that
the renewal option with Waste Management of Ames for Fiscal Year 2008 for hauling and related
services for the Resource Recovery Plant to the Boone County Landfill in the amount of$.3248 per mile
per ton is hereby approved.
