HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Waiver of encroachment permit fee for ISU Gateway columns RESOLUTION NO. 07-153 RESOLUTION APPROVING WAIVER OF FEE FOR ENCROACHMENT PERMIT FOR ISU GATEWAY COLUMNS FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, Iowa State University(ISU) is making plans to construct a gateway feature along Elwood Drive that will be located partially within the City right-of-way; and, WHEREAS,the University is requesting that the City Council approve an encroachment permit, which allows a structure to extend into the limits of a City street, alley, or sidewalk; and, WHEREAS, this project is part of a larger corridor plan to improve the image of this major entryway to the portion of the community in which ISU is located; and, WHEREAS, the Ames Land Use Policy Plan identifies Elwood Drive interchange with U.S. Highway 30 as a primary access to the University and describes City policies to identify and enhance access to this and other community entries; and, WHEREAS,the project must be built according to the design plans attached to the encroachment permit and the Minor Site Development Plan documents; and, WHEREAS,the University is requesting that the City waive the usual fee for the encroachment permit, which is consistent with past practice for City and University fees; and, WHEREAS,it seems appropriate that the City waive the fee for this project,which would amount to $2,041. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that the request from Iowa State University to waive the fee associated with the encroachment permit for the ISU Gateway structure on Elwood Drive is hereby approved.
