RESOLUTION APPROVING
NEIGHBORHOOD ART SELECTIONS, PURCHASE,AND PLACEMENT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the Public Art Commission's Neighborhood Sculpture Committee wishes to purchase
and place sculptures from artists participating in the Art Around the Corner exhibit in the Ames Main Street
area; and,
WHEREAS, the Committee aims to collaborate with Ames neighborhoods that are interested in
acquiring one of the sculptures; and,
WHEREAS,applications were available all summer and fall on the City's website as well as in the
City Manager's Office and at various community events throughout the fall; and,
WHEREAS, the City will purchase Remnants of the Dance by Mary Jane Lamberson at a cost of
$800, Window on a Blue Garden by Tom Newport at a cost of$2,350,and Bouquet by Skip Willits at a cost
of$1,350; and,
WHEREAS, the Neighborhood Sculpture Committee toured interested neighborhoods, and based
on certain criteria, three neighborhoods were selected to receive sculptures, as follows:
1. Neighborhood#1 on Pierce Court in North Ames will receive Remnants of the Dance.
2. Neighborhood#2 at North Dakota and Delaware in West Ames is to receive Window on a
Blue Garden.
3. Neighborhood#3 at Brookridge Avenue and Brookside Park will receive Bouquet.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the
Public Art Commission's selection of the aforementioned neighborhoods to permanently display artwork
and the purchase of the artwork to be displayed are hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 6t'day of March, 2007.
