RESOLUTION APPROVING ESTABLISHMENT OF PARKING LOT RENTAL FEE
FOR PARKING SPACES IN CITY LOT P FOR
YOUTH & SHELTER SERVICES
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, in order to facilitate the renovation of one of our most significant local historic
landmarks,the 1915 Municipal Building,the City transferred ownership of the building and propeorty
at 5`' and Kellogg to Youth& Shelter Services (YSS) for$500; and,
WHEREAS, to further assist with the consolidation of its administrative operations in the
Downtown, the City agreed to lease the 16 parking spaces in Lot P to YSS at no charge for the first
10 years, and for the final five years of the agreement at a"rate set by the City"; and,
WHEREAS, since the transfer of the property was recorded in April 1997,the 10-year period
for free rent for YSS will terminate this April; and,
WHEREAS, in August 2006, staff received a request from the YSS Board of Directors
requesting that the City continue to rent the 16 spaces in Lot P for$1.00 for each of the remaining five
years of the agreement; and,
WHEREAS,the current rates for these types of reserved spaces in the Downtown area range
from $35-$45/month, which will generate $6,720 to $7,680 in revenue annually from this lot; and,
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council ofthe City of Ames,Iowa,that
the establishment of a rate of $35/month per space for 16 parking spaces in City Lot P for the
remaining five years of the current agreement with Youth& Shelter Services is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 13th day of February, 2007.
