HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Closure of Welch Avenue for Campustown Rail Jam RESOLUTION NO. 07-061 RESOLUTION APPROVING CLOSURE OF WELCH AVENUE FOR CAMPUSTOWN RAIL JAM EVENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, staff recently met with representatives of the Iowa State University Ski and Snowboard Club for planning the Campustown Rail Jam on Welch Avenue,and this year,organizers are requesting that they be given a"snow date" of March 3 in case there is not enough snow on the ground on February 24, 2007; and, WHEREAS, for this event, the organizers are requesting the closure of Welch Avenue between a point north of Fire Station No.2 and south of Lincoln Way from 12:00 p.m. on February 24 until 12:00 a.m. on February 25 (or snow date, if used); and, WHEREAS, Welch Avenue parking spaces would be closed at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, and the street will be closed at noon to facilitate the hauling in and/or making of snow on Welch Avenue; and, WHEREAS,the Public Works Department will provide barricades appropriate for the closure of Welch Avenue and the Welch Avenue entrance to City Parking Lot X(if necessary); and, WHEREAS,the entrance and exit to the lot will be temporarily off of Hayward Avenue; and, WHEREAS,event organizers will be responsible for providing adequate interior fencing and hay bales along the course in order to protect participants; and, WHEREAS,Club members will also be responsible for providing sand bags or similar devices to prevent debris from entering the storm sewer intakes; and, WHEREAS,Campustown businesses and the neighborhood have indicated their support for this event, and the University is providing insurance coverage for the Club. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the closure of Welch Avenue north of Fire Station No. 2 and south of Lincoln Way from 12:00 noon on February 24, 2007, until 12:00 a.m. on February 25, 2007 (or on aforementioned snow date) for the Campustown Rail Jam is hereby approved.
