HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Neighborhood Improvement grant for SCAN RESOLUTION NO. 06-411 RESOLUTION APPROVING NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT GRANT TO PERFORM RENTAL HOUSING ENFORCEMENT IN THE SOUTH CAMPUS ASSOCIATION NEIGHBORHOOD FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,the City Council recently received a request to fund an innovative program to help correct various Municipal Code deficiencies that are identified in the South Campus Area Neighborhood residents; and, WHEREAS,under the proposal, student interns would be hired to: 1. Identify properties in the neighborhood that do not comply with various City ordinances. The interns would make contact with the property owners, or tenants if appropriate, to attempt to correct the deficiencies first by voluntary compliance. 2. Work with the Greek community to help organize an"Adopt-A-Block"program that will accomplish ongoing clean-up of specific blocks in the neighborhood. 3. Provide a follow-up report describing the conditions that they found in the area, suggesting what needs to be continued and identifying which properties were non- compliant. WHEREAS, funding for this Program in an amount of $3,700 is available from the Neighborhood Improvement Program. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the request from the SCAN to provide $3,700 for funding for the "Campustown Pride" Program, which will allow interns to make contact with the property owners to attempt to correct the deficiencies first by voluntary compliance, is hereby approved.
