RESOLUTION APPROVING SECOND ADDENDUM TO
VETERANS MEMORIAL AGREEMENT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,on April 25,2006,the City Council approved a three-parry agreement with artist
Chris Bennett and the Ames Foundation, acting as agent for the volunteer Veterans Memorial
Committee, for creation of a Veterans Memorial on City-owned land at the corner of Fifth Street and
Grand Avenue; and,
WHEREAS, the artist and Committee have determined that a change should be made to the
wall, which is major feature of the Memorial; and,
WHEREAS, it is now recommended that the wall be constructed of structurally supported
concrete with a 3/16" bronze facing on the south side; and,
WHEREAS,the appearance of this wall from the street side will remain unchanged,while the
back side of the wall facing the parking lots will now be concrete; and,
WHEREAS, the wall will also be 10'high, rather than 8'; and,
WHEREAS, in order to complete the wall by Veterans Day, there will be an additional cost
of$19,900,which will be paid for by the Ames Foundation.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the Second Addendum to the Veterans Memorial Agreement is hereby approved.
