HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Contract for replacement coal drops for Power Plant RESOLUTION NO. 06-386 RESOLUTION WAIVING FORMAL BIDDING REQUIREMENTS AND AWARDING CONTRACT FOR REPLACEMENT COAL DROPS FOR CONVEYOR SYSTEM AT AMES POWER PLANT FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, the Electric Services Department budget includes $161,300 to rebuild coal conveyor drops 1, 2, 4, and 5, and these drops are transition points in the coal conveyor system where the coal is transferred from one belt to another; and, WHEREAS,the current coal conveyors were first installed in 1967 and 1968,and the coal drops are now showing age and wear; and, WHEREAS,after 40 years,these junctions need to be replaced as part ofthe normal maintenance;and, WHEREAS,the purchasing policy requires formal bids for equipment and services costing more than $50,000; and, WHEREAS,based on information received,Electric Production staff seeks to have the formal bidding requirement waived and award a contract to Martin Engineering of Neponset, Illinois,to perform this work; and, WHEREAS,the Power Plant already has new Martin Engineering sealing equipment installed on drops 5-7 and 7-8 and would like to continue using this company in order to prevent multiple parts and inventory items; and, WHEREAS,Martin Engineering is the actual manufacturer and has supplied excellent equipment and services on City of Ames contracts in the past; and, WHEREAS, Martin Engineering has submitted an informal proposal for this work in the amount of $161,300; and, WHEREAS, another firm was contacted and its representative indicated it could not do the work. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that formal bidding requirements are hereby waived, and a contract is awarded to Martin Engineering of Neponset, Illinois, for replacement of coal drops 1, 2, 4, and 5 in the amount of$161,300.00.
