HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amendment to LUPP for building heights in UIA RESOLUTION NO. 06-377 RESOLUTION APPROVING AMENDMENT TO LAND USE POLICY PLAN REGARDING BUILDING HEIGHTS IN THE UNIVERSITY-IMPACTED AREA FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, on December 20, 2005, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 05-503 modifying the Ames Land Use Policy Plan (LUPP) to include policies for the University-Impacted Area; and, WHEREAS,this action followed a sub-area planning process for the area around the south and west sides of the Iowa State University campus, which had an objective of ensuring that new development is compatible with the important existing characteristics of the Area; and, WHEREAS,this action incorporated the Sub-Area Plan for the University-Impacted Area into the Ames Land Use Policy Plan; and, WHEREAS, the Sub-Area Plan established a maximum building height to be "expressed in feet equivalent to 3.5 stories"for most of the residential portions of the University-Impacted Area,but also established a transition zone along Lincoln Way and Beach Avenue,in which"maximum building height is to be in feet equivalent to 5.5 stories"; and, WHEREAS,for consistency of the Land Use Policy Plan and Zoning Ordinance,the Council is being asked to make a change to the Sub-Area Plan for the University-Impacted Area to eliminate the reference to building height from the standard for properties on Lincoln Way and Beach Avenue on Page 6 of the Sub-Area Plan; and, WHEREAS, at its meeting of August 16, 2006, the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the LUPP amendment to change the building height in the Sub-Area Plan for the University-Impacted Area. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the change to the building height in the Sub-Area Plan for the University-Impacted Area is hereby approved.
