HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Resource Recovery Artist-in-Residence Program RESOLUTION NO. 06-371 RESOLUTION APPROVING AMES RESOURCE RECOVERY ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, this Program will be a joint venture between the City of Ames and Iowa State University; and, WHEREAS, it will give artists an opportunity to create artwork from trash that would otherwise end up in the landfill; and, WHEREAS, its purpose is to continue the tradition of Artists-in Residence within the Ames/ISU community and to foster new opportunities for community identity, education, and environmentally responsible practices while supporting the arts and growing the City's public art collection; and, WHEREAS, one two-month residency will be awarded through a jurying process to a nationally recognized and/or emerging artist who uses recycled or found objects as a primary element in his/her artwork; and, WHEREAS,the intent is to develop this project into a nationally recognized program with at least one new artist selected to participate each year; and, WHEREAS,the Public Art Commission requested that 50%of the proposed budget($14,102) be allocated from unspent monies from the Commission's FY 2005/06 budget with the remainder to be secured through grants. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council ofthe City of Ames,Iowa,that the Ames Resource Recover Artist-in-Residence Program is hereby approved as above-outlined.
