HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Agreement for installation of Four-Quadrant Railroad Gate at Duff Avenue RESOLUTION NO. 06-347 RESOLUTION APPROVING AGREEMENT WITH IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (IDOT) FOR INSTALLATION OF DUFF AVENUE FOUR-QUADRANT RAILROAD GATE FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS,the Iowa Department of Transportation(IDOT)and the Union Pacific Railroad have planned to enter into a master agreement to construct safety improvements at several railroad crossings throughout Iowa; and, WHEREAS, included in this list is the Duff Avenue railroad crossing in Ames; and, WHEREAS,once an assessment of each project location was made,the IDOT and the UPRR determined that a four-quadrant gate installation would enhance safety improvement for the Duff Avenue crossing; and, WHEREAS, as the Highway Authority, the city of Ames will need to be party to this agreement and be responsible for providing traffic control and conducting minor curb work to facilitate the installation of the four-quadrant gate; and, WHEREAS, by installing the gate under this agreement, the UPRR will be responsible for ongoing maintenance of the improvements; and, WHEREAS, this project was chosen to receive Federal STP funding for 90% of eligible construction costs, with UPRR covering the remaining costs; and, WHEREAS, the City of Ames will be reimbursed for the curb work and traffic control, estimated in the amount of$15,000, in accordance with this agreement. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the Iowa Department of Transportation Agreement STP-RR00(105)-2C-00 providing federal STP funding for the Duff Avenue Four-Quadrant Gate Installation is hereby approved.
