HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street closure for All-American Weekend events RESOLUTION NO. 06-342 RESOLUTION APPROVING CLOSURE OF WELCH AVENUE FOR EVENTS ASSOCIATED WITH ALL-AMERICAN WEEKEND FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, staff has been meeting with representatives of the All-American Weekend Organizing Committee,the Main Street Cultural District,North Grand Mall,and the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau to prepare for the Fifth Annual All-American Weekend(AAW); and, WHEREAS, activities will begin on Friday, September 1,and will run through September 3; and, WHEREAS, one of the events planned in conjunction with AAW is a "Campustown Block Party" featuring a band on Welch Avenue; and, WHEREAS,the organizers are requesting the Council to assist them in facilitating this activity by closing Welch Avenue from Chamberlain Street to Lincoln Way on September 2,2006,from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m.; and, WHEREAS,access for apartment residents parking areas behind the businesses on the east side of Welch Avenue will be allowed from the road block on Chamberlain to the parking lot entrance at mid-block; and, WHEREAS,as in past events,staff at the barricades on Chamberlain Street will assist the Fire Department in entering and exiting the station,pending receipt of a certificate of insurance form the Jaycees liability company naming the City of Ames as an additional insured. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council ofthe City of Ames,Iowa,that the request to close Welch Avenue from Chamberlain Street to Lincoln Way on September 2, 2006, from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m., pending receipt of the aforementioned certificate of insurance, for the "Campustown Block Party"during All-American Weekend activities is hereby approved.
