HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Policy on development of shared-use paths RESOLUTION NO. 06-325 RESOLUTION AFFIRMING POLICY ON DEVELOPMENT OF SHARED-USE PATHS FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,locations for shared-use paths for both planned/future developments and for pre- existing development occurs on a case-by-case basis; and, WHEREAS, in the case of a planned/future development, staff reviews the applicable plans, including but not limited to,the Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization(MPO)Long Range Transportation Plan, the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances, and the Land Use Policy Plan; and, WHEREAS, after a determination has been made that a shared-use path is required, staff consults with the developer as they determine the best alignment based upon safety, topography, location of existing shared-use path systems,connectivity, amenities, any associated impediments to the location, and associated City costs; and, WHEREAS,the initial determination of this pathway alignment is then finalized through the Developer's Agreement and Final Plat processes; and, WHEREAS,when a shared-use path connection is required through pre-existing development, staff either recommends purchase of the property or obtaining an easement from the affected property owner, with an easement being the preferred means of gaining this access. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the existing shared-use path policy as followed by City staff is hereby affirmed. ADOPTED THIS 8th day of August, 2006.
