HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Waiver of golf cart prohibition in Ada Hayden Heritage Park RESOLUTION NO. 06-291 RESOLUTION APPROVING TEMPORARY WAIVER OF GOLF CART PROHIBITION IN ADA HAYDEN HERITAGE PARK FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, in 2004 and 2005, members of the Moose Lodge contacted local assisted living facilities in Ames to assess the interest of their residents touring Ada Hayden Heritage Park via golf carts; and, WHEREAS,members of the Lodge believed that residents with mobility limitations rendering them unable to walk the site would never get to experience the overall beautify of this park if they weren't provided a ride; and, WHEREAS,in 2004 and 2005, over 130 older adults took advantage of the Lodge members' offer and toured the park; and, WHEREAS, participants received individual rides in golf carts with Lodge members and toured the site for 30 minutes via the trail system, and this three-hour event has been tremendously successful with participants ranging from 75 to 95 years in age; and, WHEREAS, due to the success of this program the past two years, members of the Lodge would like to offer this opportunity again in 2006 to older adults with limited mobility, however,the Municipal Code restricts motorized vehicles to streets and parking lots; and, WHEREAS, the Moose Lodge is requesting that Council waive this regulation on "Grandparents Day"which is Sunday, September 10, 2006,between the hours of 1:00-4:00 p.m. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council ofthe City of Ames, Iowa,that the waiver of golf cart prohibition in Ada Hayden Heritage Park on September 10, ,2006, from 1:00- 4:00 p.m. to transport mobility-impaired older adults is hereby approved.
