HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Speed limit on E. 13th Street for National Special Olympics RESOLUTION NO. 06-243 RESOLUTION APPROVING TEMPORARY EXTENSION OF SPEED LIMIT ON EAST 13T11 STREET FOR NATIONAL SPECIAL OLYMPICS EVENTS FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, the first National Special Olympics will be held in Ames July 1-8, 2006; and, WHEREAS,to facilitate the various needs of organizers,athletes,volunteers,and visitors,the organizers are making several requests for the event; and, WHEREAS, all softball activities will be taking place at the North and South River Valley diamonds on East 13th Street during the week; and, WHEREAS,this will create more traffic in the area,which has a 45 mph speed limit until just west of the entrance to North River Valley Park; and, WHEREAS, organizers are requesting the temporary extension of the 35 mph speed limit on East 13th Street east to Stagecoach Road from a point 300 feet east of the east line of the North River Valley Park entrance from July 2-7, 2006; and, WHEREAS, staff has determined that it would be beneficial to slow traffic down to 35 mph prior to the park entrances to help the traffic turning into and out of both parks. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the temporary extension of the 35 mph speed limit on East 13t' Street east to Stagecoach Road from a point 300 feet east of the east line of the North River Valley Park entrance from July 2-7, 2006, is hereby approved.
