RESOLUTION APPROVING AGREEMENT WITH
AMES FOUNDATION AND SCULPTOR CHRIS BENNETT
FOR AMES VETERANS MEMORIAL
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,the City Council authorized use of City land at Fifth Street and Grand Avenue for a
Veterans Memorial; and,
WHEREAS,on February 14,2006,Budget Wrap-Up,the Council also budgeted$60,000 in Local
Option Sales Tax funding as a contribution for this project, subject to a matching funding requirements;
and,
WHEREAS, the Veterans Memorial Committee has worked for over three years to plan and
generate private funding for this Memorial; and,
WHEREAS, the Ames Foundation agreed to serve as the fiscal agent for the Committee; and,
WHEREAS,the Committee worked with sculptor Chris Bennett to develop plans for the proposed
sculpture garden that will appropriately honor those who have served our nation; and,
WHEREAS, a three-party agreement among the City, Ames Foundation, and Chris Bennett has
been prepared; and,
WHEREAS, the total cost of the Agreement is $106,950, which is the total fee payable to the
sculptor; and,
WHEREAS, of that amount, the City has committed no more than$60,000 to this project; and,
WHEREAS,after paying for the site work and all other expenses,the Foundation will transfer all
remaining funds that have been raised for the Memorial to the City; and,
WHEREAS,the City will assume responsibility for ongoing maintenance of the Memorial site after
acceptance of the improvements and sculpture.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the
Agreement with the Ames Foundation and sculptor Chris Bennett for the Ames Veterans Memorial is
hereby approved subject to the Veterans Memorial Committee raising the remaining $10,227..
