HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Designation of Grand Avenue Extension as Minor Arterial Street RESOLUTION NO. 06-140 RESOLUTION APPROVING DESIGNATION OF GRAND AVENUE EXTENSION (SOUTH 16TH STREET TO LINCOLN WAY)AS A MINOR ARTERIAL STREET FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, the Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization's (AAMPO) Long Range Transportation Plan(LRTP)identifies the need to extend Grand Avenue from Lincoln Way to South 16t" Street; and, WHEREAS, the first phase of this extension was completed to approximately 350' south of Lincoln Way at the HyVee entrance, and the remaining phases will extend Grand Avenue from this point,south to Squaw Creek Drive in the second phase,and then complete the extension to South 16t' street in the third phase; and, WHEREAS,with the passage of the new federal transportation bill in the fall of 2005,the City of Ames received earmark funding for the Grand Avenue Extension from Squaw Creek Drive to Lincoln Way, which is Phase 2 of the overall extension; and, WHEREAS,this project is programmed in the City of Ames Capital Improvement Plan for FY 2007/08 and in the Iowa Department of Transportation(IDOT)Statewide Transportation Improvement Program for FY 2006; and, WHEREAS,in order to utilize these federal earmark funds,the Grand Avenue Extension must be shown on the IDOT/US DOT Federal Functional Classification Map for the Ames urban area;and, WHEREAS, the Grand Avenue Extension would be identified as a Minor Arterial Street, which is consistent with the projected traffic volume and other similar area streets,and this designation will also allow the AAMPO to apply for use of future federal and state funds on this roadway. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the designation of the Grand Avenue Extension(South 16t'Street to Lincoln Way)as a Minor Arterial Street is hereby approved.
