RESOLUTION APPROVING RENEWAL OF CONTRACT FOR
2006/07 HAULING AND RELATED SERVICES FOR THE
RESOURCE RECOVERY PLANT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS,on May 11,2004,the Council awarded a contract to Waste Management of Ames
for hauling and related services for the Resource Recovery Plant(RRP)during the 2004/05 fiscal year;
and,
WHEREAS, the period from July 1, 2006, through June 30, 2007, is the second of four
optional extension periods; extension periods are contingent upon approval of funding by the City
Council; and,
WHEREAS, the approved FY 2007 budget includes $154,840 for this work; and,
WHEREAS,the contract is based on a per-mile,per-ton amount and a round trip distance to
the Boone County Landfill of 36 miles; and,
WHEREAS,there is a provision in the contract to allow longer hauls as well as a provision to
cancel the contract if this type of service is no longer needed because of a change in disposal
procedures; and,
WHEREAS,the base bid price of$.295 per mile per ton is adjustable for each extension period
based on 10%of the bid amount based on fuel costs and the diesel fuel price index as determined by
the Iowa Department of Transportation on March 1 preceding the renewal; and,
WHEREAS, under the contract adjustment clause,the contract price will increase to $.3193
per mile per ton for 2006/07, increasing the cost for a round trip to the Boone County Landfill to
$11.49 per ton.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the renewal option for 2006/07 hauling and related services for the Resource Recovery Plant with
Waste Management of Ames in the amount of$.3193 per mile per ton is hereby approved.
