HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Purchase of Neighborhood Art Selections RESOLUTION NO. 06-100 RESOLUTION APPROVING NEIGHBORHOOD ART SELECTIONS,PURCHASE,AND PLACEMENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the Public Art Commission's Neighborhood Sculpture Committee wishes to purchase and place sculptures from artists participating in the Art Around the Corner exhibit in the Ames Main Street area; and, WHEREAS, the Committee aims to collaborate with Ames neighborhoods that are interested in acquiring one of the sculptures; and, WHEREAS,applications were available all summer and fall on the City's website as well as in the City Manager's Office and at various community events throughout the fall; and, WHEREAS,the Neighborhood Sculpture Committee toured interested neighborhoods in January, and based on certain criteria,three neighborhoods were selected to receive sculptures, as follows: 1. Neighborhood#1 at the intersection of Friley and Beach Avenue will receive Symphony by V. Skip Willits 2. Neighborhood #2 is to receive Pilots of the Waterway by V. Skip Willits, which will be placed on the east edge of the pond north of Burnham Drive 3. Neighborhood#3 on Westbend Circle will receive Dance of the Prairie Dawn by Maureen A. Seamonds. WHEREAS, the cost to acquire Symphony is $750 and Pilots of the Waterway is $2,700; and, WHEREAS,the City currently owns Dance of the Prairie Dawn,however,new concrete pads and footings will be necessary at an approximate cost of$900. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the Public Art Commission's selection of the aforementioned neighborhoods to permanently display artwork from an artist participating in the Art Around the Corner exhibit is hereby approved.
