HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - FEMA Assistance grant application for new emergency command vehicle RESOLUTION NO. 06-086 RESOLUTION APPROVING GRANT APPLICATION TO ACQUIRE NEW EMERGENCY COMMAND VEHICLE UNDER THE FEMA ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS ACT GRANT PROGRAM FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS,the City of Ames maintains one vehicle designated as the command vehicle;and, WHEREAS, this converted 1981 CyRide bus with considerable miles has been used by the City for 12 years; and, WHEREAS,the primaryuse is for incident command and operations at emergency scenes,and the Police,Fire,and Public Works Departments have also used this vehicle for City employees to seek shelter when operations are provided during inclement weather; and, WHEREAS, the present vehicle has reached a state that it is beyond reasonable repair; and, WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has a grant program available to fire departments that includes funding for apparatus,and it is proposed that the City utilize this grant program to help replace the command vehicle; and, WHEREAS, under this proposal, the City will request grant funding to acquire a $190,000 vehicle,with the grant providing 80%($152,000)of the necessary funds and the City providing a 20% ($38,000)match; and, WHEREAS,the Replacement Fund would provide$30,000 and$8,000 from the sale of a Fire Department reserve engine would be used to provide for the match. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that staff is hereby authorized to submit an application for a grant to acquire a new emergency command vehicle at a total cost of$190,000 under the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Act grant program and up to $38,000 from the Fleet Replacement Fund is approved to be used as the local match.
