RESOLUTION APPROVING FUNDING REQUEST FROM
VEISHEA CO-CHAIRS FOR OPERATION PLAYGROUND
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, last year, students representing LINC (Leaders Inspiring Connections) spear-
headed an effort that resulted in the construction of new playground facilities at three of our City
parks; and,
WHEREAS, of the $45,000 needed to purchase the equipment involved in this project, this
group was able to raise $36,000 from private donations; and,
WHEREAS,in addition,hundreds of hours of"sweat equity"were provided by ISU students
to help with the installation of this equipment; and,
WHEREAS, this year, the VEISHEA Committee would like to continue giving back to the
community by constructing a playground at the Beloit Residential Treatment Center; and,
WHEREAS,to assist in this goal,the City Council has received a request for$3,000 in funding
and $1,700 in in-kind work from our Parks and Recreation Department staff.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the request for$3,000 in funding towards the LINC playground project at Beloit Residential Treatment
Center is hereby approved with the funds being expended from the Contingency Account, and Parks
and Recreation Department staff is authorized to prepare the site by laying out the equipment and
drilling holes to support the structure.
ADOPTED THIS 28th day of February, 2006.
