HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Temporary closure of 24th Street to move transformer RESOLUTION NO. 06-042 RESOLUTION APPROVING TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF 24TH STREET TO FACILITATE MOVEMENT OF A TRANSFORMER FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,by resolution the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,approved the temporary closure of 24th Street on January 30, 2006, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to facilitate the delivery of a new 161,000-volt transformer via the 24ih Street Union Pacific Railroad Crossing to the George W. Carver Substation; and, WHEREAS, on January 30, 2006, a Union Pacific Railroad equipment failure made it impossible to complete the delivery of the transformer within the time scheduled for the closure of 24' Street; and, WHEREAS,the Union Pacific Railroad has been contacted in an effort to determine the next time in which the North/South mainline through Ames would be vacant for up to a six-hour period to allow the completion of the unloading process; and, WHEREAS, it is requested that 24' Street be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m on January 31, 2006, and that the City Manager be authorized to temporarily close 24t' Street and to erect temporary street closing signs for additional times,as needed,until the unloading process is complete. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the temporary closure of 24t" Street on January 31, 2006, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., is hereby approved,and further,that the City Manager is authorized to temporarily close 24'Street and to erect temporary street closing signs for additional times,as needed,until the delivery and unloading process of a new 161,000-volt transformer via the 24th Street Union Pacific Railroad Crossing to the George W.
