HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Design of new elevated water tank RESOLUTION NO. 06-006 RESOLUTION APPROVING CONTRACT FOR ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR DESIGN OF NEW ELEVATED WATER TANK FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, in 1998, a comprehensive study of the City's drinking water distribution system was completed, including an evaluation of the existing elevated water storage volume; and, WHEREAS,that study found that adequate storage capacity currently exists,but that by the end of the 20-year planning period, additional storage would be needed to meet the recommendations of the Iowa Department of natural Resources Water Supply Facilities Design Standards; and, WHEREAS, when a new booster pump station was constructed at the intersection of State Avenue and Mortensen Road in 2002,the site was laid out to accommodate a future elevated tank;and, WHEREAS, design of the new elevated storage tank is included in the current year of the Capital Improvements Plan, and in accordance with the City's established procedures for procuring professional services, a formal request for proposals process was initiated; and, WHEREAS, nine proposals were received and evaluated by staff, and four proposing firms were invited to interview with the staff team; and, WHEREAS,the team came to a unanimous decision that DeWild Grant Reckert and Associates (DGR) of Rock Rapids, Iowa, was the preferred consultant; and, WHEREAS, staff has negotiated an acceptable scope of work with DGR that includes a fixed fee of$47,500 for design, bidding, and construction services, and based on the level of assistance requested by staff,DGR has proposed an amount of$20,000 for inspection services,not to be exceeded without prior approval. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the award of contract to DeWild Grant Reckert and Associates of Rock Rapids, Iowa, for design, bidding, and construction services in the amount of$47,500, plus construction inspection services provided on an hourly basis estimated at $20,000 is hereby approved.
