HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amendments to LUPP for University Impacted Area RESOLUTION NO. 05-503 RESOLUTION APPROVING AMENDMENTS TO THE LAND USE POLICY PLAN FOR THE UNIVERSITY-IMPACTED AREA FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,the Land Use Policy Plan(LUPP)established the University-Impacted Area(UTA)as one of its Unique Development Area classifications; and, WHEREAS,future development in these areas is to be guided by additional policies and standards; and, WHEREAS,the LUPP provides some of these policies for the UTA and calls for sub-area planning to determine appropriate compatibility standards and other ways to implement the LUPP; and, WHEREAS,based on direction from the Council at its December 13 meeting,that sub-area planning for the UTA is now complete, and proposed changes to the Land Use Policy Plan are consistent with the findings of that planning; and, WHEREAS, the proposed text amendment to the LUPP does not substantially alter the LUPP policies,but rather provides a more specific description of intensification; and, WHEREAS, residential intensification in the center core, referred to in the Sub-Area Plan as the Campustown Service Center, will develop at a higher density than in the rest of the University-Impacted area; and, WHEREAS, the amendments also describe the compatibility standards to guide the integration of new development with existing development; and, WHEREAS,the Sub-Area Plan also describes steps to be taken to apply conservation measures to areas where there is a substantial presence of historically and architecturally-significant residential structures. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the amendments to the Land Use Policy Plan for the University-Impacted Area are hereby approved as attached hereto.
