RESOLUTION APPROVING REQUEST
FOR FUNDING TO SUSTAIN THE
BLACK CULTURAL CENTER ON WELCH AVENUE
WHEREAS,a request was received from the Vice-President for Student Affairs of Iowa State
University(ISU)for funding in the amount of$20,000 to help sustain the Black Cultural Center;and,
WHEREAS,the Black Cultural Center is the only organization that has a facility of its own,
and this presents unique challenges for maintenance and upkeep; and,
WHEREAS, funding has been committed by the Government of the Student Body in the
amount of$10,000 and Iowa State University in the amount of$20,000; and,
WHEREAS, ISU Student Affairs Office has indicated that the ISU Multi-Cultural Student
Affairs Office will assume maintenance responsibilities for the Black Cultural Center once the
facility has been brought into compliance with Building Codes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that an allocation of$20,000 from the available balance of the Local Option Sales Tax Fund to help
sustain the Black Cultural Center on Welch Avenue is hereby approved, contingent upon the other
agencies providing funding in the amounts aforestated.
ADOPTED THIS 22nd day of November, 2005.
