HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Contract for purchase of switchgear RESOLUTION NO. 05-464 RESOLUTION WAIVING FORMAL BIDDING REQUIREMENTS AND AWARDING CONTRACT FOR PURCHASE OF SWITCHGEAR FOR BALL PLASTICS FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,Ball Plastic Containers Corporation recently finalized its plans for plant expansion and requested added electrical service capabilities by February 1, 2006; and, WHEREAS, the estimated cost of the switchgear to provide the added services is $85,000 plus applicable sales taxes; and, WHEREAS, funding will be from Electric Services underground systems improvements funds,and much of the cost of the switchgear for this additional service will be reimbursed over time through excess facilities charges; and, WHEREAS, S &C Electric Company manufactures the switchgear that is compatible with existing systems, and its normal delivery time for this type of equipment is approximately 22 weeks, however, the factory will not confirm whether it will expedite its normal process until receipt of an order; and, WHEREAS,the purchasing policies require that formal sealed bids be solicited for the purchase of equipment costing more than$50,000, and under that process, sealed bids are solicited and then reported to Council for award; and, WHEREAS, however, the purchasing policies also include provisions for "rapid need purchases" which are applicable when materials and/or services must be purchased in less than the normal allotted time in order to continue services to the public and their need was not known or predictable; and, WHEREAS,staff solicited informal competitive written bids from the authorized distributors of S& C Electric Company switchgear, and two bids were received. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the formal bidding requirement is waived and award of contract to Burmeisteri Electric Company of Fort Dodge, Iowa, in the amount of$90,254.50, including applicable sales taxes, is hereby approved.
