RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT FOR
SOUTH DUFF AVENUE AREA STORM SEWER RECONSTRUCTION
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,the 2005-2010 Capital Improvement Plan identified the South Duff Avenue Area Storm
Sewer Reconstruction,and funding for this project is anticipated from General Obligation Bonds in the amount
of$500,000 in 2006/07; and,
WHEREAS,this project is for storm sewer reconstruction from the South 2nd Street/Duff Avenue area
to the Lincoln Way/Kellogg Avenue area; and,
WHEREAS,it will alleviate drainage problems that exist in the area west of South Duff Avenue and
north of South 3'Street to Sumner Avenue,north to South 2nd Street,and west to Kellogg Avenue; and,
WHEREAS,this work will also help to alleviate localized flooding at South 3 rd Street and South Duff
Avenue,which occurs approximately every three years due to inadequately-sized storm sewers; and,
WHEREAS,this project is part of a larger project that included construction of a storm sewer along
South Borne Avenue extending to Squaw Creek,west along South 3rd Street to Sumner Avenue,north to South
2nd Street, and west to Kellogg Avenue; and,
WHEREAS,due to current staffing levels and workload,a request for competitive proposals to provide
engineering services was sent out in August 2005,and 13 response proposals were returned and evaluated;and,
WHEREAS,it was determined that Hoard R.Green Company of Urbandale,Iowa,would provide the
most effective design services for the project,and this firm completed the original design study and plans for
the first phase of construction; and,
WHEREAS,the cost of the proposed engineering services contract is not to exceed$77,000.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the
engineering services agreement with Howard R.Green Company for the South DuffAvenue Area Storm Sewer
Reconstruction Program in an amount not to exceed$77,000.00.
