RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES FOR
OCTAGON ART FESTIVAL
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, The Octagon Center for the Arts plans to host an art festival in the Ames Main
Street Cultural District(MSCD)on Sunday, September 25,2005,and this event is scheduled to begin
at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS,booths selling arts and crafts, as well as food items,will be in operation that day;
and,
WHEREAS,in addition,there will be two entertainment stages,one located orth of Tom Evans
Plaza and the second near the Douglas Avenue and Main Street intersection; and,
WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, the organizers for the art festival are requesting the
following street closures beginning at 3:00 a.m. on September 25: Main Street from a point east of the
Wells Fargo Driveway to the entrance of the CBD lot east of the intersection of Main Street and
Douglas Avenue; Burnett Avenue from a point just north of the downtown alley south to Tom Evans
Plaza; Kellogg Avenue from a point just north of the downtown alley south to the south edge of the
Main Street and Kellogg Avenue intersection; Douglas Avenue from the 5 t' Street intersection south
to Main Street; and,
WHEREAS, streets and parking spaces will be closed at 3:00 a.m. on September 25 and will
reopen at about 9:00 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS, Public Works staff will provide the necessary barricades for the street closures.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the aforementioned street closures for The Octagon Center Art Festival in the Ames Downtown area
on September 25, 2005, are hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 13th day of September, 2005.
