HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Contract for Supplemental Fixed Route Bus Service RESOLUTION NO.05-365 RESOLUTION AWARDING CONTRACT FOR SUPPLEMENTAL FIXED ROUTE BUS SERVICE FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, during the fall 2003 semester, CyRide began an experiment with Central Iowa Transit to use school buses on portions of CyRide routes; and, WHEREAS,several experiments were conducted and service was finalized in a few locations where the school buses were able to make a Middle School trip,then a CyRide trip,then grade school trip,and another CyRide trip;and, WHEREAS,the marginal operating cost for the school buses was very close to the marginal CyRide cost to operate the trip;and, WHEREAS,the savings to CyRide occurs in vehicle replacement by reducing the total size of the CyRide fleet;and, WHEREAS, four school buses were used during the spring 2004 semester, however, with the ridership decrease in the 2004/05 school year,only one school bus was used; and, WHEREAS,it is expected that CyRide will use four school buses during the 2005/06 school year,and in order to determine a fair cost for the service,the City's Purchasing Division solicited bids for the service;and, WHEREAS,it was estimated that the total cost of school bus service would be about$50,000 for the school year;and, WHEREAS, the contract was structured to pay for service on a "per trip" basis, and CyRide staff will determine where the school buses are needed and school buses can be added or deleted depending upon ridership demand and school bus availability;and, WHEREAS,only one bid was received,and that was from Central Iowa Transit for$37.75 per trip; and, WHEREAS,it is estimated that approximately 1,280 trips will be operated if ridership patterns are consistent with previous years,therefore,the total contract cost is estimated at$48,320. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the contract for Supplemental Fixed Route Bus Service with Central Iowa Transit is hereby approved.
