HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street closure for "Welcome to Ames" event for new ISU students RESOLUTION NO. 05-340 RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURE AND SUSPENSION OF PARKING ENFORCEMENT FOR "WELCOME TO AMES" EVENT FOR NEW ISU STUDENTS FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, in discussing the City Council's priority of"Connecting our community with each other and with City government,"members of the staff began exploring ways to better connect with incoming ISU students; and, WHEREAS, a committee was formed with representatives from the City's departments to plan a"Welcome to Ames"event with two evenings of activities on August 25 and 26 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, the proposed location is near Fire Station No. 2 in Campustown; and, WHEREAS,activities that are planned to help attract passersby into this event include: free pizza and Ames water;sound system and a DJ playing music;various activities such as a free throw contest,field goal contest,and football toss;promotional items from City departments will be given away; and, drawings and prizes; and, WHEREAS,in order to facilitate this event,City staff is requesting that Chamberlain Avenue between Welch and Stanton Avenues be closed and parking enforcement of the metered spaces be suspended on August 25 and 26 from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the closure of Chamberlain Street and the suspension of parking enforcement along this street section on August 25 and 26 from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. are hereby approved.
