RESOLUTION APPROVING WAIVER OF GOLF CART PROHIBITION
AT ADA HAYDEN HERITAGE PARK TO TRANSPORT
MOBILITY-IMPAIRED INDIVIDUALS ON A TOUR
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,in August 2004,members of the Moose Lodge contacted local assisted-living
facilities in Ames to assess the interest of their residents in touring Ada Hayden Heritage Park via
golf carts; and,
WHEREAS, members of the Lodge believed that residents with mobility limitations
rendering them unable to walk the site would never get to experience the overall beauty of this park
if they weren't provided a ride; and,
WHEREAS, in September 2004, over 130 older adults took advantage of the Lodge
members' offer; and,
WHEREAS,they received rides with Lodge members and toured the site for 30 minutes via
the trail system, and this three-hour event was tremendously successful with participants ranging
from 75 to 95 years in age; and,
WHEREAS,members of the Lodge would like to offer this opportunity again,however,the
Municipal Code restricts motorized vehicles to streets and parking lots; and,
WHEREAS, the Moose Lodge is requesting that the City Council waive this regulation on
Sunday, September 11, 2005,between the hours of 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the waiver of golf cart restrictions to streets and parking lots on Sunday, September 11, 2005,
between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Ada Hayden Heritage Park is hereby approved,thereby allowing
Moose Lodge members to provide golf cart rides to mobility-impaired individuals.
ADOPTED THIS 9th day of August, 2005.
