RESOLUTION APPROVING AGREEMENT WITH
UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD FOR
BLOOMINGTON ROAD BIKE PATH
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,with the pending completion of the update to the Transportation Master Plan and
the opening of the Ames Middle School, shared use trails and bike paths have been receiving much
attention; and,
WHEREAS, staff has closely evaluated the remaining locations approved for the Shared Use
Path Program in both the 2004/05 and 2005/06 Capital Improvement Plans (CIP); and,
WHEREAS,this evaluation has determined that there is a shortfall in the available funding for
the shared use trails and bike path locations for these two fiscal years; and,
WHEREAS, the Bloomington Road Trail costs were higher than budgeted due to additional
expenses related to the Union Pacific Railroad(UPRR) crossing; and,
WHEREAS, the Pedestrian Crossing Agreement required by the UPRR establishes the costs
for UPRR crews to construct the crossing and provides a license to the City for the right to use the
crossing; and,
WHEREAS,the Bloomington Road Path has been completed with the exception of the railroad
crossing work, which should be completed within 90 days; and,
WHEREAS,program funds in 2004/05 have been used to finance the construction contract and
will also be applied to the UPRR expenses.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that
the New Pedestrian Crossing Agreement with the Union Pacific Railroad for the Bloomington Road
Trail Extension is hereby approved.
