RESOLUTION APPROVING RETAINAGE OF ARCHITECTURAL FIRM
FOR COMPLETION OF A BUILDING ASSESSMENT FOR PROPERTY
LOCATED AT 1013 ADAMS STREET
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, in May 2005, staff was notified that the Last Will and Testament of Mary E.
Adams bequeathed land, structures, and one percent of her estate to the City of Ames for property
located at 1013 Adams Street; and,
WHEREAS,Mrs.Adams,who passed away in April of this year,and her late husband,Bert,
lived at this location since 1956, and the home is located on five acres of land adjacent to the
southern property line of Ada Hayden Heritage Park; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Adams built the house in the 1940s; and,
WHEREAS, on June 16, the mayor, City Council members, Parks and Recreation
Commission members,and individuals from the Ames Heritage Society toured the Adams property
and home; and,
WHEREAS,the group was impressed with the overall site, its close proximity to the Park,
and the style of architecture that was utilized by Mr. Adams when he built the home; and,
WHEREAS,prior to the Council taking action on this bequest, City staff recommends that
a Building Assessment be completed of the Adams property.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the retainage of Architects Rudi-Lee-Dreyer&Associates at a cost not to exceed$2,250,to be
paid from the Contingency Fund, for the completion of a Building Assessment of the Adams
property located at 1013 Adams Street is hereby approved
ADOPTED THIS 26th day of July, 2005.
