HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - 28E Agreement for Public Safety Services RESOLUTION NO. 05-262 RESOLUTION APPROVING 28E AGREEMENT FOR JOINT COMMUNICATION NETWORK FOR PUBLIC SAFETY SERVICES FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, for several years,the Police Department has been working with the Iowa State University Police and the Story County Sheriff's Office to consolidate computer hardware and software into a multi-agency computer system; and, WHEREAS, the benefits of this system include cost sharing of system expenses, more efficient use of support staff, improved communication and collaboration in crime analysis, and crime prevention; and, WHEREAS, the shared software will also allow for more efficient communication among the three communications centers and aid in the management of emergencies and other maj or events; and, WHEREAS, in addition, future investments will require upgrading a single hardware or software platform rather than one at each agency; and, WHEREAS, an agreement has been prepared that provides for an Operational Committee to make day-to-day decisions and ensure the reliable performance of the system; and, WHEREAS, the City's share of costs associated with the operation of the network will be determined by the City Council as a part of the annual budget development process. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Interagency Agreement to establish and maintain a joint computer network for public safety services among the City of Ames, Iowa State University, and Story County is hereby approved.
