RESOLUTION APPROVING AMES GAS REGULATOR AGREEMENT
WITH INTERSTATE POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the City owns approximately 1.5 acres of land on the north side ofBloomington
Road just west of the railroad tracks; and,
WHEREAS,Interstate Power and Light Company(IP&LC),a subsidiary of Alliant Energy,
has been upgrading natural gas service capacity in this developing area of northwest Ames, and a
high-pressure, natural gas line has been routed through the area, necessitating a gas regulator to
reduce pressure for service to residential and commercial customers; and,
WHEREAS, in conjunction with this upgrade, IP&LC requested an easement agreement
from the City to install the gas regulator facility on the City-owned property at the Bloomington
Road elevated water tank site; and,
WHEREAS, allowing the gas regulator to be located on this property will not cause any
disruption to City operations on the site; and,
WHEREAS, the terms of the agreement require IP&LC to pay the City$4,000 as its share
to relocate the existing fence and gate when Bloomington Road is widened in the future; and,
WHEREAS, the City grants IP&LC an initial five-year lease to use the property,however,
unlimited time extensions are allowed after that time with the caveat that the City may revoke the
agreement with one year's notice.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the land lease agreement with the Interstate Power and Light Company for a gas regulator at the
Bloomington Road elevated water tank site is hereby approved.
