RESOLUTION APPROVING TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURES FOR
THE FOURTH OF JULY PARADE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, organizers and members of Leadership Ames are in the final stages of preparing for
the Fourth of July Parade to be held in the Ames Main Street Cultural District(AMSCD); and,
WHEREAS,based on the success of last year's parade, the route and associated activities will be
expanded; and,
WHEREAS, food vendors will also be included in this year's festivities, and the Bill Riley Talent
Search will hold its State Fair talent competition in the Central Business District; and,
WHEREAS, parade organizers are asking that for the following temporary street closures: Main
Street from the Grand Avenue overpass to Duff Avenue;Fifth Street from Grand Avenue to Duff Avenue;
Pearle Avenue; Clark Avenue from the south driveway of the Central Business District(CBD)lot to Fifth
Street;Burnett Avenue from Main Street to Fifth Street;Kellogg Avenue from south of Main Street to Fifth
Street; and, Douglas Avenue from Main Street to Fifth Street; and,
WHEREAS, these street closures will occur from approximately 9:00 a.m. until the end of the
movement of the parade; and,
WHEREAS,the only exception to the closures will be Burnett Avenue,which will remain closed
until 6:00 p.m. to accommodate food vendors; and,
WHEREAS,the Public Works Department will provide barricades to close the streets and control
access to the parking lots; and,
WHEREAS, organizers will be responsible to place and staff the barricades.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the
request to close the aforementioned streets for the Fourth of July Parade is hereby approved.
