RESOLUTION APPROVING TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURES
IN THE AMES MAIN STREET CULTURAL DISTRICT FOR
THE SHRINE BOWL PARADE AND OTHER EVENTS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,for the sixth consecutive year,the Iowa Shrine Bowl is planning to have the Iowa All-
Star Game in Ames on Saturday, July 23, at Jack Trice Stadium; and,
WHEREAS, as part of this event, the Iowa Shrine Bowl is requesting to temporarily close streets
for the parade on July 23,which will help kick off the day's events and,
WHEREAS, the Parade is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. and be routed through the Central
Business District(CBD) and it will last until approximately 11:30 a.m.; and,
WHEREAS,the Shrine Bowl organizers will provide volunteers to post signage along the parking
areas and staff barricades at the minor intersection crossings along the route; and,
WHEREAS,as an additional activity in association with the Iowa Games Adult Weekend,the Ames
Convention and Visitors Bureau(ACVB)would like to provide an activity for Iowa Games participants in
the CBD on July 23 as well; and,
WHEREAS, from 6:00 p.m.until midnight, Olde Main Brewing Company has agreed to operate a
beverage garden on Burnett Avenue between Main Street and Fifth Street; and,
WHEREAS,alcohol will be served in the beverage garden,therefore,this street closure is contingent
upon receipt of a liquor license.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the
temporary closure ofportions of Main Street,Douglas Avenue,Fifth Street,Burnett Avenue,Pearle Avenue,
Kellogg Avenue,and Clark Avenue from 8:00 a.m.until noon for the Shrine Bowl Parade on July 23,2005,
is hereby approved and the closure of Burnett Avenue from Main Street to Fifth Street for the beverage
garden for Iowa Games Adult Weekend event on July 23, 2005,between 6:00 p.m. and midnight(subject
to receipt of the liquor license and insurance requirements) is further approved.
