RESOLUTION APPROVING 161-kV TIE LINE PROJECT
AND AUTHORIZING EASEMENT ACQUISITIONS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, this year's budget includes a CIP project to install a 161-kV interconnection
with Mid-American Energy Company (MEC) and to upgrade the current interconnection with
Alliance Utilities; and,
WHEREAS, the budgeted cost of the project is $18,667,000; and,
WHEREAS, a major portion of this project will entail the acquisition of transmission line
easements, which are required in order to place the transmission line across private property; and,
WHEREAS,these easements will be purchased in a corridor in the vicinity of Interstate 35
between Ames and the Ankeny substation owned by MEC; and,
WHEREAS,according to Iowa Code Section 6B,in order to acquire any land rights,the City
Council must approve the project and grant authorization to acquire the needed easements; and,
WHEREAS, the use of condemnation would be authorized as part of this action.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the 161-kV Tie Line project is hereby approved and acquisition of all needed easements is
hereby authorized, first through good faith negotiations and/or finally by condemnation.
