RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT
FOR THE 2006/07 COLLECTOR STREET REHABILITATION PROGRAM
(NORTHWESTERN AVENUE FROM 6TH STREET TO 13TH STREET)
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the 2005/2010 Capital Improvements Plan (CIP) establishes the reconstruction of
Northwestern Avenue from 6'h Street to 13'h Street in the 2006/07 Collector Street Rehabilitation Program;
and,
WHEREAS, funding is to be allocated in the 2006/07 CIP from G.O. bonds in the amount of
$960,000 and an Iowa Department of Transportation(IDOT) STP grant of$640,000; and,
WHEREAS,because project funding includes IDOT STP grant funds,the contract must follow
IDOT schedules and procedures for bid letting; and,
WHEREAS, a request for competitive proposals to provide engineering services for the
Northwestern Corridor(13'h Street to 20'h Street and 6' Street to 13'h Street)was sent out in July 2004,
and ten response proposals were returned and evaluated by staff, and,
WHEREAS,it was determined that the Howard R.Green Company of Des Moines,Iowa,would
provide the most effective engineering services for the project; and,
WHEREAS, the contract (for Northwestern Avenue from 6'h Street to 13'h Street) will include
evaluation of the deteriorating pavement,determination of the most appropriate reconstruction technique,
and complete plan preparation services; and,
WHEREAS, the cost of the proposed engineering services contract is not to exceed$138,299.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that
the engineering services agreement with Howard R. Green Company for the 2006/07 Collector Street
Rehabilitation Program(Northwestern Avenue from 6'Street to 13'h Street)in an amount not to exceed
$138,299 is hereby approved.
