HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Neighborhood Art Selections RESOLUTION NO. 05-055 RESOLUTION APPROVING NEIGHBORHOOD ART SELECTIONS, PURCHASE,AND PLACEMENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, included in the City's approved 2004/05 Budget is $4,000 for a new Neighborhood Art Program; and, WHEREAS,under this Program,the Public Art Commission will select and place one or two pieces of art from artists participating in the Art Around the Corner exhibit in neighborhoods across the City; and, WHEREAS, this Program directly addresses the City Council's goal to strengthen our residential neighborhoods; and, WHEREAS, the Commission's Neighborhood Art Sub-Committee created a program to collaborate with Ames' neighborhoods that might be interested in having one of these pieces of artwork displayed permanently in their neighborhood; and, WHEREAS, the application deadline was December 31, 2004; and, WHEREAS, the Neighborhood Sculpture Committee toured interested neighborhoods in January, and based on certain criteria,the Committee selected the neighborhood in the Forest Glen and Oakland Areas,with the selected site being the southern entrance to Emma McCarthy Lee Park on Oakland Street. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Public Art Commission's selection of the Forest Glenn and Oakland area neighborhood as the neighborhood to permanently display artwork from an artist participating in the Art Around the Corner exhibit is hereby approved. ADOPTED THIS 22nd day of February, 2005. Diane R.
